It all started when we were kind of forced into a vacation. Rob is a supervisor with his job, and he needs to be within 25 min of work. From home, it was taking him around an hour to an hour and a half to and from work. It wasn't a convenient highway either, it was dark and winding old country roads. After working 12 hour days he was burning out.
So over Thanksgiving we found a resort type place. There are cottages here they just completed that are meant to be corporate housing for all the oil jobs around here, and summer vacation spots. So Rob could get to work on time, and we could see him over Thanksgiving, we decided to stay a week. It is a beautiful place, the cottages are like mini suburban houses really. It is only one room, and a full bath-GASP-about 540 square feet-with a full kitchen, and front porch.
I've always been the adventurous type, Rob....not so much. But it is his idea that we move out of our house, and stay here for a month while we look for a house. This will solve several problems. Right now we are down to one vehicle. With Rob working an hour away I could not even take the kids to their regular doctor, but had to go to urgent care on the weekends. I couldn't keep the suv to look for a house, because the gas would have been outrageous. So, while it is a little scary to pack up without a home, I think this is going to work. Already being here has given me a better feel for the surrounding towns, and what is a better place for us to live. I'm not even worried about living in such a small space with all our kids, since I am an expert at streamlining our possessions, and a good space problem solver. It helps that out the front door is a pretty little shaded hill for them to run and play. There is a playground, and fishing. I don't mind saying I'm a little thrilled too that for a month I don't have to worry about paying all those house bills since everything including cable and Internet is included!
Best of all, the kids are really thriving here. All of us have been getting outside and by the river everyday, playing basketball, and generally just being happy. For Rob it's the same ole working everyday. For the kids and I it's like a month long vacation. OH, I didn't say----it's like an early Christmas present for me because housekeeping is included!!! Woot!
I will be sure to chronicle our adventures here, and to add pictures as soon as I get my camera here.
